ABOUT
Arnie Thurgood’s work is a mixture of creations that represent the different facets of herself and her life. Whilst suffering with chronic pain and depression, art has become Arnie’s outlet and focus as a way to cope with day to day life. Each of her three main directions all link to how she feels, giving the viewer a ‘window’ into her psyche.

The unconventional animal portraits and landscapes offer a glimpse into her caring nature and inspire compassion in others for the world around us and what we are slowly loosing. By bringing more awareness to the beauty that surrounds us, her work in this area serves as a reminder that we are all connected and have a responsibility to the wider world to preserve what we have before it is too late.

Pour paintings or fluid art, is a relatively new discovery for Arnie but she has discovered a great love for the freedom of movement the process provides. Unlike the detailed portraits and skull work, the pouring process is more abstract and conveys Arnies wonder at the world and the universe. Many of these pieces convey the sky, galaxy or atmosphere in an explosion of colour, startling the viewer into questioning the essence of life. Arnie can sometimes feel overwhelmed by her depression but visualizing the universe helps her to put into perspective the significance of her feelings and emotions, bringing her back down to earth and grounding her, after all we are tiny in the grand scheme of things.

Working with skulls and creating other dark art serves as an outlet for Arnies inner demons and although sometimes disturbing to the viewer the process is often found to be very cathartic and fun.

All of Arnies work has been the result of her evolving as an artist and experimenting with different mediums, although acrylics are the main material used. Undoubtedly Arnie will continue to create and keep providing us with more thought provoking, beautiful art as her career keeps developing.

Arnie Thurgood currently lives and works from her home in Hereford, England, which she shares with her husband, pet micro pigs (Faith and Fiona), Chickens, Ducks, Grace Dog and Simon Cat.
